MI - ORTO is an urban box agriculture project for Piazza XXV Aprile in Milan, which arises from the collaboration between Liveinslums Ong - Research Agency (creator and project leader) and a series of associations that are active in Milan in the field of practice of urban agriculture and ecological and social design with site-specific projects, carried out in the various districts of the city, involving citizenship.
Mi - ORTO is the result of a collaboration between Liveinslums Ong and Eataly Milano Smeraldo (technical partner), with the idea of creating a project of integrated vegetable gardens and seats capable of transforming Piazza XXV Aprile in the days of Design Week (17 - 22 April 2018 ), through the creation of an ecological event dedicated to urban agriculture involving the entire city of Milan and the Italian and foreign citizens taking part in the Fuori Salone.
MI - ORTO wants to transform a part of Piazza XXV Aprile into a shared vegetable garden open to citizens, passers-by, building a mobile space, self-manageable, where to invite the fragile sections of the population (children and the elderly in particular) to learn about horticulture proximity - from Km 0, healthy and safe; where to realize workshops for all dedicated to the construction of pocket garden - balcony gardens, where to listen-touch-see the value of bio-diversity through workshops, conferences, readings dedicated to out-of-soil horticulture in Milan as in the world; where to learn about traditional seeds (with Slow Food) with which to make your own vegetable garden at home; where to understand why urban beekeeping is so important for cities. All these themes will build a Piazza XXV Aprile in movement, playful, experiential, ecological and participatory, where MI - ORTO will present all the Milanese associations involved in projects of local farmhouses, community gardens, educational and shared gardens, which will have adhered to the event auto-building together with Liveinslums ong its own set of garden-seats on wheels (to each association-group participating in the project will be donated a kit of assembly of vegetable gardens-furniture that will be made by each in the months of February-March 2018).
